Upon stimulating the house’s gag reflex, the kids get vomited into the front yard. The house—having pulled itself from its foundation—chases the children, who fight back with construction equipment. Those moments are joined by scenes of ferocious conflict and intense peril. Bones is lured into the house to retrieve a kite taken from him as a boy—bait snatched away again as the house consumes him. Men are seized by a violent tree and the dreaded tongue-carpet and “eaten” by the house. Jenny nearly becomes a victim when the front walk comes to life.
Parents
Nebbercracker returns from the hospital alive and well and it is revealed that Constance is the house. When they first met, Constance was an unwilling participant in a circus freak show who was ridiculed for her obesity. Nebbercracker developed feelings for her as he helped her escape and they later got married. On Halloween, during their house's construction, some children began tormenting Constance. Provoked, she attempted to chase them off as Nebbercracker tries to stop her, only to be knocked out as she stumbled and fell into the unfinished basement with her body accidentally being coated in cement, suffocating her.

Chowder provides a dummy filled with medicine that should cause the house to sleep long enough for them to douse the furnace. The plan almost succeeds, but Officers Landers and Lester arrive and thwart it. Landers discovers the cold medicine inside the dummy, which Chowder took from his father's pharmacy, and arrests them. The cops place the trio in the police car while they examine the house. DJ, Chowder, and Jenny escape the car but are trapped in the house. They fall into the basement and find an enormous collection of toys accumulated from Nebbercracker lawn, as well as a locked cage that DJ opens with a key he found on the lawn.

Spiritual Elements
They end up having to fight their way through the house, dealing with more enemies as they traverse the corridors. After escaping from the house, due to Jenny pulling on the uvula, they are chased by the house to a construction site, where Chowder fights the house, as the final boss, with a backhoe. After defeating the house by blowing it up with a dynamite, Chowder and Jenny congratulate DJ from the ground as he hangs on a crane. DJ’s mom makes it a point to articulate love for her son and urges his father to do the same. DJ’s teen babysitter, Zee, scolds her boyfriend, Bones, for putting the moves on her (“You have no respect for women”) and kicks him out of the house.
After Jenny manages to escape and fights off a huge doll of Constance, getting to the attic, DJ calls up to her from below and tries to get to her, but is caught by a canopy bed in the master bedroom after collecting a key on the bed. DJ and Jenny later meet up in the basement and decide to just get out of the house. DJ, along with Chowder and Jenny, is one of the three playable characters in the video game based on the film. Jenny explains that the chandelier is the uvula, and it stimulates the gag reflex and everyone has a uvula. The boys spend the night watching the house as they think it might move again.

Chowder's Parents
After DJ and Chowder save Jenny from getting eaten by Nebbercracker's house, Zee comes out of DJ's house telling the kids there's an angry Dad on the phone looking for the one called Chowder. Chowder is then seen talking in the phone to his Dad and he apologizes to him and excepts his apology. After Dad says good bye to his Dad and hangs up the phone, when DJ and Jenny come in DJ's room, Chowder picks up the phone again and pretends to hate his Dad saying, "Well Dad, why don't you kiss my hairy butt!?", and then asks DJ he's got any beer. Next, when DJ calls Chowder on the phone when he was thinking Nebbercracker was haunting him, he asks him where his parents are, and Chowder tells him that his Dad is at his pharmacy and his Mom is at the movies with her personal fitness trainer. DJ always knew there was something strange about the forbidding old Nebbercracker house across the street.

However, their plan is foiled by police officers Landers and Lister, who arrest them when they find that they stole the cold medicine. The house tricks the officers into coming closer and eats them both, along with their car. A disrespectful paperboy gets knocked from his bike by a boomerang newspaper.
Film
While in the Nintendo DS version, they end up having to deal with the house directly, with the lawn serving as a battle arena. Later, the children in their Halloween costumes are lined up at the remains of Nebbercracker house, where DJ, Chowder, and Jenny help him return all of the toys to their owners, including Eliza's tricycle. In the basement DJ finds a locked cage containing the remains of Nebbercracker’s wife (a rotund concrete form that, cracked open, reveals the woman’s skeleton). Fending off eggs and other projectiles one day, she staggered to the edge of the foundation and accidentally fell to her death in the cellar many feet below, followed by a splash of cement (all shown in flashback). And for the most part they talk and behave like real kids, too, or at least like characters drawn from the rich tradition of plucky, intellectually curious kiddie-lit heroes. DJ is descended from Encyclopedia Brown (perhaps by way of Jimmy Neutron, but never mind), and Jenny bears some temperamental resemblance to Harriet the Spy.
Upon awaking he receives ominous phone calls from the abandoned house. On two occasions, boys get knocked to the pavement by automobiles. The rumor around town is that Nebbercracker killed and ate his wife. An avid video gamer plays the violent Thou Art Dead, which features axe-wielding avatars, a fountain of blood and a mocking skeleton with blazing red eyes. The trio seeks advice from Reginald "Skull" Skulinski, a strange video game addict working in a pizza parlor who is claimed to be an expert on the supernatural.
DJ and Chowder spy on the house but Chowder refuses to believe the house is possessed. The house wakes and is disturbed when it finds Chowder and DJ on its property. The carpet comes out to get Chowder and DJ, but the boys scared by the house's demonic appearance, run into DJ's house in fear.
As DJ's parents are preparing to go to a dentist's convention, returning the following day in the evening, Chowder runs right into the back of their car, wearing a Halloween mask (which makes it hard for him to see). This was of course part of his master plan to cultivate his unstoppable empire. He and DJ proceed to play basketball while discussing their Halloween plans; DJ says that he probably doesn't plan on trick-or-treating due to feeling he's too old for that activity, much to Chowder's dismay. Chowder, in a fit of rage, bucked the ball straight at DJ's face and his ball ends up on Nebbercracker's lawn. Chowder shouts angry words as he storms over to Nebbercracker's lawn to get his beloved toy of choice. Nebbercracker comes out and yells at Chowder to get off his lawn, and runs toward Chowder.
Chowder emerges from the ground and imitates Nebbercracker on the porch, then rings the doorbell. The house wakes up and is disturbed when it finds Chowder and DJ on its property. The next morning, Jenny Bennett is on the street selling Halloween chocolates. DJ and Chowder see her going to Nebbercracker house, and they rush out to warn her, managing to catch her before she is eaten by the house.
But Chowder is stunned to know that DJ does not want to go trick or treating as he thinks he is getting too old for it. At the end of the film, Chowder thought that DJ was right that he is too old for trick or treating, but DJ thought he can go trick or treating as it would cheer Chowder up and it did. DJ and Chowder see her going to Nebbercracker's house, and they rush out to warn her, managing to catch her before she is eaten by the house.
He crawls up to the house, and on his way he finds a beer (left by the drunk Bones). When Zee's boyfriend Bones later pays a visit, he recalls the time Nebbercracker stole his kite, as well as relating rumors of him cannibalizing his wife. After Zee kicks him out, Bones notices his kite in the front door of Nebbercracker's house, tries to retrieve it and is abducted.
Nebbercracker then finished the house's construction in Constance's memory, but her vengeful spirit soon merged with it. Over the years, Nebbercracker feigned aggression to protect innocent people from her.
